Today I'm a cosfest slut! Haha!
I prettied up and then braved the rain to head over to Downtown East with my gal-pal Brummie, (recently returned from Brum for her holz) in a cab of course! I'm pampered yes i know... but I like me that way! So there.
Was supposed to meet one of my colleagues there and meet her I did but we kinda drifted our separate ways during the course of the convention. I didn't go there with very high hopes that I might see real good cosplayers there. As we all should know the classic cliche, "the bigger they are the harder they fall"?
However, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of detail some of the cosplayers observe in the making of their costume. Of course there was the majority of buggers with half-assed costumes who don't see beyond the vague sense of character dressing... but the thing that draws the line bewteen mediocrity and greatness is in the details! Sad to say, not everybody bothers... Both Brummie and I came to the conclusion that if I turned up in my halloween kitty costume I'd be in the better dressed portion of the cosplaying crowd. It's not my intention to brag here but it's sadly true.
Managed to get a couple of pics with some of the better cosplayers at the convention. There was this girl cosplaying as some character from Final Fantasy I think, there was the VERY cute Cloud Strife, one Kakashi and Cap'n Jack Sparrow! Hahaha! pretty good haul I'd say..
The Naruto cosplayers didn't disappoint. The girl who cosplayed Sasuke won Best Female cosplayer and Anbu Kakashi was damn cool and very cute to boot! I wanted to take a pic with him but I was beaten to the opportunity by this fuglee lolita! Damn pissed. I didn't get the pic in the end... Why? Poor Kakashi looked like someone stabbed a kunai in his side.. poor guy looked so pained somehow and rushed outside. Probably went to the lil shinobi's room or something. He never came back :(
The event ended with the results... And the pair from Gundam Seed Destiny won! I couldn't believe it! They sucked! Their acting was so fake! What really ticked me off was that while the contestants were making their speeches in response to the question "Why should you be the one sent to the world cosplay competition in Japan?" One of the girls from the Bleach group started the nationalistic ball rolling and it just kept rolling and rolling... never stopping till it reached the Gundam girls... and MAN! Quit with the preaching already! All that crap about "we'll do Singapore proud! we'll show the world! singapore's the best!" You can't even speak proper english or act out your part properly, what makes you think you can stand alongside with the cosplayers from the rest of the world? Such arrogance. Really *throw face* if they really believe what they're saying and go there acting like that. I really don't want to think about what other cosplayers will think about cosplayers from Singapore. Come on!
One major grouse I have is that most of the good cosplayers were on the floor and not in the competition! All the half-assed buggers were strutting around like they owned the place. Then there was this one chubby guy who claimed to be a character from Bleach or something all he had to show was this weird full arm glove thing on one hand that malfunctioned when he was posing! That's not cosplay!! Even the entertainment was better than the contestants. Two Jedis, one Darth Maul and Supergirl kicked ALL their asses! Plus, there was also this gothic elf girl with such a great get-up that she'd be a winner hands down!
Brummie and I both decided that next year, we'd dress up and kick all their half-assed asses. Real shame we didn't have enough time to do anything this year.
