I woke up this morning all achy-like and for a moment I was lost, stuck for a brief moment in the confused state that awaits all dreamers awoken from a dream they'll never remember. Then I remembered that I ached because I did more stuff yesterday than I swore I'd do over the past month...

Procrastination. The number 1 killer of all creation.

Anyway, this was a VERY productive weekend for me as I hauled-ass all the way to Chinatown on Saturday to source for cloth. Once again, something I've been putting off for a while.

I haven't been to People's Park for aeons and the place has certainly changed!
Pretty nicely cleaned up. The stuff there are so cheap! An old lady there made me feel guilty... I walked into her store because I saw a nice blue cotton cloth that might be suitable for my shinsengumi haori and it was DIRT-CHEAP (not that I know how much dirt costs nowadays but I expect it would be this much because of price inflation and GST.) $2/yard!!! but since I was just sourcing, I told her that I wasn't buying and you should see how her face fell. She was so nice and all, actually pulling down the bale to show me the material, refusing help even though she was all bent over and arthritic and all.

I made an old lady sad :( and that didn't sit well with me at all! Damn. I hate guilt trips. Promised myself I'd buy from her when I actually went back to buy the stuff. Old people make damn good sales people.

After Chinatown I hopped over to Bugis to get me a pair of jap slippers which were all the rage like 2 years ago and cost a freakin bomb now that I want them. Damn you Murphy!

On Sunday, I finally started on my katana.

It occurred to me to document my accomplishment but in the heat of the moment I forgot and when I remembered, I was too lazy to run 3 floors up to get the camera.

I shaped a bare-assed plank of wood into a nice katana! All by myself! (except for my dad helping me saw out said plank of wood with a dangerous rusty looking electric saw) And let me state for the record that filing down said plank of wood is DAMN hard work. My aching fingers and wrists are living testimony to that fact. Anyway, shaping done. I'd have to say it's a pretty good job for a first-time carpenter wannabe. If I remember today I'll take a photo and post it here.

Will probably document the rest of my costume making as I go along so watch this space good people!

SAMIE'S GOING TO EOY'06!!!
